Announces 2005 Research Grant Recipients
Researchers to Focus on Technological and
Societal Changes
Affecting the Document Communications Industry
TORRANCE, Calif.,
(Feb. 24 2005) — The
Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF), the non-profit organization
dedicated to the document communications industry, today announced the five
recipients of its 2005 EDSF Research Grants. The grants are presented to an
academic team, under the leadership of a university professor, for research in document publishing/printing and multimedia communications. Research conducted
through the EDSF grants focuses on technological and
societal changes affecting the document communications industry and forecasts
the effects of current and emerging technologies. EDSF’s goal is to be a
catalyst for education and research initiatives and to bring the industry
together to resolve document communications issues that impact society.
EDSF Research Grants are important not only because they involve
students in the process, but also because they provide a value-added path to
the real world. “We view the EDSF grant as an opportunity for some of our most
advanced students to learn about current topics by applying basic research
methods,” said Mark Snyder, associate professor, Department of Graphic
Communications at Clemson University, an EDSF Research Grant recipient. “This
is a win-win situation because the project provides information about hot new
topics in the industry and the students get to apply research skills while
learning the latest trends. Then, when the students graduate, they will step
right into the world that they were exploring and hopefully, over time, give
something back to the industry.”
The EDSF Research Grants have been awarded to
the following universities and professors and their student teams:
Dr. La Verne Abe Harris, Assistant Professor
Arizona State University, USA
