"I'm so thankful for this scholarship opportunity. My interests in publishing techniques, from the web to letterpress to photocopied self-published magazines, will be at the foreground of whatever graphic communications I create this coming year. This scholarship represents, for me, my commitment to staying abreast of innovative digital publishing tools while at the same time finding ways to underline the continued importance of the beautifully printed page in art and graphic design."

Mission, Vision, & History

Mission
As a non-profit, tax exempt international organization, the Electronic Document Scholarship Foundation (EDSF) engages in programs designed to attract the best and brightest to the industry. By granting scholarships, fostering education, promoting research, recognizing leaders, encouraging innovation, and garnering and disseminating knowledge, we are helping build the next generation of digital content and delivery professionals.

Vision
The heart of the Foundation's mission is to ensure that our industry has the talent it needs to survive, grow and excel. This mission is supported by our scholarship program and Excellence in Education Awards. With the new creativity and talent of future professionals, our industry will be able to maintain its valuable role in business and in society.

As a resource for industry knowledge, EDSF also commissions leading-edge research to spot trends that could impact our marketplace. The Foundation sponsors a worldwide research grant/mentor program that involves professors and students in the process. Academic institutions also have an opportunity to submit grant proposals, either individually or in partnership with leading research firms.

History
The original concept of the document foundation dates back to 1994, when it was noted that the document marketplace was ready to expand and formalize its contribution to education and research. Originally formed as the Xplor Foundation with Xplor International as the founding organization, the Foundation was restructured in 1996. Today, with industry leaders serving as its board of directors, EDSF is dedicated to enhancing the value of document communication by fostering education and building a community of support to benefit document creators and users.
