The Electronic Document Systems Foundation Awards $2,000 Industry Scholarship to Graphic Communications College Student
TORRANCE, Calif., U.S.A. (Dec. 6, 1999) - The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF) awarded it first-ever, $2,000 David Hoods Scholarship to Heather Rodgers, a graphic communications student at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, for her impressive credentials and pursuit of a career in the electronic document systems industry. Rodgers received the honor during a special presentation at Xplor International's 20th Global Electronic Document Systems Conference & Exhibit in Los Angeles, Calif., on Oct. 31, 1999.
The scholarship is awarded annually to one junior or senior-level undergraduate student worldwide, based on his or her interest in pursuing a career in the electronic document systems industry, as well as academic ability and achievement, faculty recommendations, and eligibility requirements.
Rodgers, 20, a La Crescenta, Calif. resident, is currently pursuing a career in electronic publishing and imaging and participates in many extracurricular activities to expand her knowledge of documents. She's also active in a hands-on student-run printing company, and has coordinated a "Printing 101" seminar for novice printers. In the past, she's worked as an electronic prepress supervisor with University Graphics Systems in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and has experience with binding and finishing processes, electronic publishing systems, color quality control, and writing interactive documents.
"I'm both proud and thankful to be recognized by such a highly regarded group of professionals and that my hard work and long hours are being recognized," said Rodgers.
The David Hoods Scholarship was created in memory of David R. Hoods, a friend and supporter of the Foundation, as a way of to enhance the electronic document systems industry by encouraging and fostering education within the field. Hoods spent more than 35 years as a public relations and advertising professional and was the public relations and corporate communications adviser for EDSF, Xplor international: The Electronic Document Systems Associationâ, and other organizations in the document systems industry.
"Education is the primary goal of the Foundation. What better way to support the strength and future of our industry than to provide academic scholarships for exemplary individuals pursuing document-related careers" said John A. Lopiano, EDSF chair.
The Foundation is currently seeking applicants who are junior and senior level college students pursuing a degree in the field of communications with an emphasis on document-related technologies such as graphic communications, computer science, and telecommunications. The application deadline is August 1, 2000. The second annual scholarship will be presented during Xplor International's 21st Global Electronic Document Systems Conference & Exhibit in Miami Beach, Oct. 29 - Nov. 3, 2000.
