Canadian Student Receives EDSF Document Communications Scholarship Xplor International's Canadian Region Funds Scholarship with Generous Donation
TORRANCE, Calif., U.S.A. (Oct. 25, 2000)-Mary Lou Peacock, a graduate student at the University of Calgary, received one of seven EDSF Worldwide Electronic Document Communication Scholarships from The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF). The scholarship Peacock received, The EDSF/Xplor Canada Association Scholarship, was funded by a generous donation from the members of Xplor International's Canadian Region. Xplor International is the worldwide electronic document systems association.
Xplor Canada's donation to EDSF establishes a sponsored scholarship, which will be presented to a Canadian student each year for 15 years.
Peacock, a resident of Vanderhoof, B.C. and the first recipient, received the scholarship for her commitment to pursuing a career in the field of electronic document technology in the areas of document preparation, production, and distribution. The scholarship is based on a demonstrated pursuit of a career in 1:1 marketing, graphic arts, e-commerce, imaging science, printing and publishing, or the Internet, among other areas.
"The EDSF/Xplor Canada Association Scholarship is enabling me to explore more fully the contributions the arts make toward future electronic design and publishing. I am privileged to be learning at a time when a new generation of digital tools are forcing a rethinking of the nature of the electronic document industry," says Peacock, an honors student at the graduate division of educational research at the University of Calgary.
Since EDSF's inception, Xplor Canada has been a strong supporter of the goals of the Foundation. "The creation of a Canadian Scholarship is a natural extension of our support of EDSF activities," says Ray Elliott, president of Xplor Canada. "The scholarship gives us an opportunity to give something back to the industry and help provide for its future with outstanding, talented document professionals."
The EDSF scholarship awards program was established to recognize and support the dramatic role that education plays in the success of electronic document and communication companies. The scholarships are provided to qualified and interested students who want to prepare for careers in this growing and dynamic industry. To apply, or make a tax-deductible contribution, visit the EDSF web site at www.edsf.org.
