EDSF Calls for Nominations

Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Xerox Sponsor Education Awards

TORRANCE, Calif., (May 10, 2004) — The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF), the non-profit organization dedicated to the document communications industry, announced today, a "Call for Nominations" for its annual Excellence in Education Awards. The Excellence in Education Awards honor worldwide academic institutions and professional organizations for their innovative educational efforts supporting the advancement of the document communications industry.

"EDSF's Excellence in Education Awards are very important for the industry," said Barbara Pellow, EDSF's Vice Chair of Education and Chief Marketing Officer, Graphic Communications Group, Eastman Kodak Company. "They provide recognition for international programs that are critical in preparing the industry's future professionals with innovative, leading-edge programs that focus on the document communications industry."

This year, the Education in Excellence Awards provides recognition in three categories:

  • Innovation in Higher Education, sponsored by The Xerox Corporation:
    Presented to degree granting institutions and organizations at the undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate level whose programs are dedicated to the advancement of document communications and graphic media in our industry through education. Includes accredited 4-year or advanced degree programs delivered in the traditional classroom format, electronically, or a combination of the two.
     
  • Innovation in Continuing Education, sponsored by IBM Printing Systems:
    Presented to academic institutions or accredited training organizations that build and deliver programs and/or professional career development either conventionally or electronically. Programs may include continuing education, outreach, or seminars are not necessary delivered by an academic institution or a degree granting organization (must be a certified or certificate program). Examples include colleges, universities, consultantancies, trade schools, corporations, and trade associations. Courses may be delivered in the traditional classroom format, electronically or a combination of both.

  •  
  • Innovation in Secondary/Post Secondary Education, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Company:
    Presented to secondary schools, two-year post secondary schools, or organizations that develop programs designed for use in these institutions, and recognizing programs that are dedicated to the advancement of document communications and graphic media in our industry through education. Courses may be delivered in the traditional classroom format, electronically or a combination of both.

Nomination Process and Criteria
Those wishing to nominate an innovative program can do so by completing the online application found on the EDSF web site (http://www.edsf.org/nomination_form.cfm), or by contacting EDSF directly.

Nominations for the EDSF Excellence in Education Award are based on the following criteria, presented as guidelines only, as the nominator may provide additional, unique information that is not listed below.

  • Enhances the effectiveness of education in the document communication industry in the workplace and in the community
  • Contributes to the teaching process: to academic growth and excellence; to the art, science and profession of teaching of curricula relating to document communications
  • Reflects the leading edge of technology and addresses the most current needs of the industry
  • Prepares students to contribute to the future of the document communication industry
  • Offers a curriculum in a university, college, community college or trade and occupational school, or equivalent, or high school

The deadline date for nominations is May 30, 2004 and the award recipients will be notified in July 2004. The EDSF Excellence in Education Awards Committee will select the award recipients. The selection committee consists of knowledgeable individuals representing the document communications industry and leading academic institutions. The 2004 EDSF Excellence in Education Award recipients will be recognized during the EDSF Board of Directors reception in Dallas, Texas, during the Xplor International Global Conference and Exhibit on October 26, 2004.
