TORRANCE, Calif., (October 11, 2002)-The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF), the non-profit organization dedicated to the document communication industry, announced today the winners of the 2002 Educator of the Year and the Excellence in Education Awards. Presented annually, the Educator of the Year and Excellence in Education Awards are available to all segments of the document communication industry worldwide. The Educator of the Year Award, sponsored by Pitney Bowes Document Messaging Technologies, honors academic, corporate, or industry representatives who have made outstanding contributions to educational efforts in the document communication and graphic media industry. The Excellence in Education Awards focuses on academic institutions and organizations for their educational and innovative efforts relating to the document communication industry. This year, EDSF is pleased to name Dr. Benjamin Lee, Professor of Technology and Coordinator of the Graphic Communications program at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) as 2002 EDSF Educator of the Year. Under his leadership, the Bachelor of Science in Graphic Communications Degree Program introduced 19 new digital document and graphic communications courses aimed at the future of the industry. The curriculum includes classes in digital graphic communications technology, computer information systems, marketing, economics, and business management. He also designed the Graphic Communications/Digital Document Management Media Lab, which includes digital imaging, printing, electronic publishing, e-commerce, PDF workflow, and cross-media production.

"It is a great honor to me to be selected as the first recipient of the Educator of the Year Award by the Electronic Document Systems Foundation," said Dr. Benjamin Lee. "This prestigious award brings the necessary attention to CSULA, the program, and the importance of electronic document/graphic communications education."

EDSF also named five educational institutions as recipients of the 2002 Excellence in Education Awards (Please see attached list), sponsored by many of the leading corporations in the document communications industry, including Xerox Corporation, IBM Printing Systems, Heidelberg Digital LLC, Scitex Digital Printing, and Hewlett-Packard Company.
