The Electronic Document Systems Foundation Announces Internship Consortium
Leading Document Communication organization brings universities, corporations and students together for real-world work experiences and industry promotion
TORRANCE, Calif., (October 30, 2001)-The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF), the only non-profit organization dedicated to document communication, today announced the EDSF Internship Consortium, bringing corporations, educational institutions and talented students together for a cooperative educational experience in the world of document systems, digital printing, publishing and graphic media.
"The document communication industry needs to recognize and cultivate our future talent," said Ed Marino, President & CEO, Lightning Source, Inc. "The EDSF Internship Program awards students with real-work experiences, preparing them for successful careers as trained industry professionals. The program not only builds our community of corporations and universities, but also establishes an on-going talent pool as the market merges the worlds of paper and electronic documents with an array of emerging new media technologies."
The EDSF Internship Program integrates classroom learning with practical work experience at major corporations for both undergraduate and graduate students. Students interested in pursuing a career in document systems, digital printing and publishing, and graphic media will have the opportunity to apply for internship positions. EDSF will monitor the program, assisting corporations in identifying students that have both the skill base and career desire to work in their organizations. The length of the work experience is coordinated with the academic institution and the corporation. It may vary from six to nine months.
"Heidelberg is looking forward to the launch of the EDSF Internship Consortium," said Wolfgang Pfizenmaier, President, Heidelberg Digital. "Corporations, that are empowering students, not only help to prepare them for future careers, but we also gain potential employees for our business. The EDSF program exemplifies the fact that the document communication industry is built on a strong sense of community and dedication to its people."
A custom Web site, EDSFintern.org, will provide access to corporations and students seeking career development opportunities. EDSF will monitor the availability of jobs and evaluate student applications to ensure that appropriate matches are made to fill the co-operative internships.

Several leading universities have stepped forward in the early phases of this project to partner with EDSF, including: Rochester Institute of Technology, California Polytechnic State University, Clemson University, Carnegie Mellon University, Western Michigan University, Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute, Illinois State University, University of Wisconsin at Stout and New York University.
