Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF) Announces Excellence in Education Award Winners
EDSF awards innovative educational programs dedicated to the print and digital communications industry at large
TORRANCE, Calif., (September 21, 2001)-The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF), the only non-profit organization dedicated to print and digital communications, today announced the four 2001 recipients for their annual EDSF Excellence in Education Awards, honoring innovative approaches to document education and training.
Presented annually, the EDSF Excellence in Education Awards honor worldwide academic institutions, professional organizations and individuals for their educational and innovative efforts relating to the document communications industry. Recipients address industry issues, reflect state-of-the art technology and benefit the industry through their programs. Award winners are selected by a committee of individuals representing leading academic institutions and the document and communications industry.
Awards are presented for categories: Innovation in Higher Education, Innovation in Continuing Education, Innovation in Online Education and Training and Innovation in Professional Growth and Development Seminars. Each of the award categories is sponsored by an industry organization, including: Heidelberg Digital, Pitney Bowes, Scitex Digital Printing, and The Xerox Corporation.
"By providing these education awards, EDSF is recognizing, promoting, and perpetuating ongoing advancements in the digital print and graphic media field," said Frank Roamano, EDSF Vice Chair of Education and Administrative Chair, Rochester Institute of Technology. "These Excellence in Education Awards honor worldwide academic programs and institutions that are fulfilling this mission and preparing the industry for success through the training and development of future leaders."
The winners include the Digital Media, University of Bremen, Bremen, Germany; Institute of E-Commerce, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA; Information Technology Institute, Masters of Science in Management and Systems, New York University School, New York, N.Y.; Document Computing Institute, Montreal, Canada. All the programs represent the best in print and digital document preparation, production, and/or distribution including, graphics, printing, web authoring, imagining science, electronic publishing and e-commerce.

Innovation in Higher Education
Award sponsored by Scitex Digital Printing
Digital Media, University of Bremen, Bremen, Germany, received the Excellence in Education Award for "Innovation in Higher Education." Digital Media provides a scientific education, which connects knowledge of traditional computer sciences with design-oriented abilities for the production and application of digital media. It integrates technical, visual and cultural aspects of digital content development and study of the digital revolution. It is inter-disciplinary in nature with coursework combining both practical and theoretical aspects.
Innovation in Continuing Education
Award sponsored by Pitney Bowes Document Messaging Technologies
The Institute of E-Commerce, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, P.A., received the Excellence in Education Award for "Innovation in Continuing Education." The Institute of E-Commerce provides a robust education for a new generation of managers, planners, analysts and programmers on the realities and potential of electronic commerce. The curriculum includes two mini-semesters with intense study on E-Commerce systems and a corporate affiliate program, providing professionals with undergraduate degrees the opportunity to further their technical edcation.
Innovation in Online Education
Award sponsored by Heidelberg Digital LLC
The Information Technology Institute, part of the Master of Science in Management and Systems at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at New York University School, New York, N.Y., received the Excellence in Education Award for "Innovation in Online Education." This educational program delivers interactive multimedia telecourses in all subject areas to personal computers over the Internet, providing management training to mid-career professionals. The program offers a range of degrees and certification, including a Masters degree and Advanced Professional Certificate for programmers, systems administrators and non-technical managers.
Innovation in Professional Growth
Award sponsored by The Xerox Corporation
The Document Computing Institute, Montreal, Canada, received the Excellence in Education Award for "Innovation in Professional Growth." The Institute's corporate training program assists managers, consultants, archivists, computer professionals and project managers to better understand apply the latest document technologies. This includes the access, collaboration and distribution of email, images, multimedia, HTML, XML and office applications.
