EDSF Names 2002 Scholarship Recipients

Students to Receive Cash Awards for Career Commitments in the Document Communications Industry

TORRANCE, Calif., (September 24, 2002)-The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF), the non-profit organization dedicated to document communication, announced today the recipients of the 2002 Worldwide Document Communication Scholarship Program (Please see attached list of list of 2002 scholarship recipients). This year, scholarships totaled $30,000 and were awarded to 17 students that have shown outstanding potential towards document communications careers. This year, more than 80 students were considered worldwide for the 17 prestigious scholarships. Industry areas included document preparation, production and/or document distribution, including one-to-one marketing; graphic communication and arts; e-commerce, imaging science, printing, web authoring, electronic publishing, computer science, and telecommunications.

"Document communication continues to be a thriving industry that attracts thousands of young people each year," said Frank Romano, Professor, Rochester Institute of Technology and chair of the 2002 Scholarship Selection Committee. "While awarding scholarships is often difficult, given the caliber of the applicants we receive, we are delighted at the continued commitment and growing interest to the industry from today's students."

Founded in 1999, The EDSF Worldwide Document Communication Scholarship Program awarded its' first scholarship. The awards are based on scholastic achievement, participation in school activities, community service, honors and organizational affiliations, and education objectives. In addition, other elements are weighed, such as geographic location and financial need. For some awards, geographic location and course of study are specified. Undergraduate and advanced-degree students plus technical trade school and community college students are considered for scholarships. This year, two new scholarships were added, in memory of industry professionals and sponsored by leading document communications firms.
