EDSF, WUHAN UNIVERSITY PRESENT NEW STUDY ON CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS IN CHINA’S PRINTING AND PUBLISHING INDUSTRY
HURST, Texas U.S.A (Dec. 18, 2007) - A new report from EDSF, the international, non-profit organization dedicated to the document management and graphic communications industries, provides insight into the implementation and application of content management systems (CMS) in printing and publishing enterprises in China. The report, titled “Solutions for the Application of CMS in the Printing and Publishing Industries of China,” is available now as a free download at www.edsf.org.
The report is a result of the EDSF research grant and mentor program. An EDSF grant was awarded to The Printing and Packing Department of Wuhan University, China, where Professor Dr. Qiang Wang and students collaborated to conduct the research.
The new study points out the positive management impacts and competitive advantages of a successful CMS implementation. In addition, it looks at how the geographic, cultural and economic differences impact CMS implementations throughout China. The report predicts specific trends in China and offers suggestions to vendors and enterprises that are interested in CMS.
"According to the research, a notable percentage of large and medium-sized printing and publishing corporations in China are using CMS, which is clearly a developing trend in Chinese printing and publishing business," said Dr. Wang.
Key Findings:
-
Thirty percent of large and medium-sized printing enterprises are using CMS in China, and nearly 75 percent of printing enterprises in China have used CMS for less than three years.
-
It is predicted that more than 50 percent of companies in large and midsized printing and publishing companies will use CMS by 2012.
-
In the Chinese printing and publishing industry, enterprises in the Pearl River Delta region use CMS more than in other areas. Joint ventures and foreign-owned enterprises use CMS more than other enterprises.
-
Most of the printing enterprises that use CMS are not completely satisfied with CMS. The majority of the printing and publishing enterprises only use a few important modules of CMS rather than the entire system. They believe that improvements in compatibility and functionality need to be made.
-
Presently, CMS implementations in China vary from place to place due to cultural and economic differences. CMS implementations in China also differ from corporation to corporation based on the type and size of the enterprise.
-
As for CMS vendors, it is advised that they increase their CMS compatibility with other software to enable more output methods.
-
With the popularization of CMS, there will be an increase in the demand of related software and hardware. Increasing the content-capturing speed and accuracy will be the focus of future digitalization software.
